And They Called It Puppy Love

When I read the latest AP release coming out of New Orleans, part of me laughed and part of me shuddered. In case, you haven’t heard, 4 students had sex in front of a classroom while a 5th acted as a look out. Ok, so that is kind of funny and if I had seen that in High School I would’ve thought it was hilarious.

But, sadly, this did not envolve any High School students. These students, were in fact, only in 5th grade. Two 11-year old girls, a 12-year old boy, and a 13-year old boy had intercourse while another 11-year old boy acted as a look out. The four students who committed the act have been charged with obscenity, a felony. While the look out is being charged with being an accessory.

The school houses students from K-12th grade, and the teacher who normally watches over the class, happened to be taking an upperclassmen group of students to an assembly. There was no substitute supervisor and the students remained alone for 15 minutes.

I am a young man, and it’s only been a little over a decade since I was in elementary school, but my mind has been blown by this. So, sex education does start in elementary school, because boys start to get that lovley b.o. , which I’ve found only gets worse. But having full on intercourse, JESUS CHRIST! The girls were only 11 yeard old, I doubt they’ve even had their first period yet. And maybe the 13-year old boy can “function” sexually, but still. I repeat. JESUS CHRIST!

What the hell is wrong with people today? Now, I’m sure if this story gets big it will cause storm of “who do we blame?”. Because, damn it, we can’t blame the kids for being dumbasses. Could it be the parents fault? No, never, that isn’t what a watch dog group can go after. Let’s think bigger. School system? Maybe. The media? Oh hell yeah!

This has to be the media’s fault for oversexing this kids. Because these movies always show people having sex in public. Yeah, yeah. And furthermore, let’s get the religious right in on this bad boy. Yeah, yeah. No sexual education in school. If they students hadn’t learned about sex from the school they would’ve never done it!

Sorry, I am done being a smart-ass. But, I just fear those watch-dog groups sometimes. Whether or not this is an isolated incident of a couple young kids being stupid, I can not say. But it just may be that. So, let’s see how this plays out and if it reaches the national stage.

Modern Day Jack The Ripper Goes On Trial

Authorities in Los Angeles have charged former pizza delivery man, Chester Turner, with murdering 10 women and 1 unborn fetus. Much like, Jack The Ripper, all the victims were prostitues. Turner’s DNA was found on the bodies, which led police to link him to the murders occuring between 1987-1998. Turner is currently serving an 8 year sentence for rape.

Prior to Turner’s arrest the police had wrongly accused and prosecuted mentally disabled janitor, David Allen Jones. Jones was released from prison in March 2004 after having spent 11 years in jail. He was given $720,000 as compesantion for his hardship.

Turner’s defense team claims that he was a drug dealer in a shady part of South Central L.A. (but to be honest is there a good part to South Central?). And that his main clients were prostitutes, who, in leiu of money would pay with services rendered. Which, would account as to why his DNA was found on the bodies.

This case is a modern day “Jack The Ripper”. All the murders happened in a small 4 block wide area of Los Angeles. The serial killer, still technically unknown, only assualted “women of ill repute”. He even removed an unborn fetus. Jack the Ripper removed women’s wombs. But while this serial killer has at least a dozen murders linked to him, Jack the Ripper only had 5. And even that number is up in debate by historians.

Whether or not Turner is the serial killer the case has yet to be decided. However, if it is proven he is innocent of these murders, the case will once again be a cold case and will rejoin Jack the Ripper.

The Importance of Being Clinton

As the democratic national convention creeps ever closer those democrats have a few front runners. Most notably, Hillary Clinton. While she is not the first woman to run for the office. She is one of the first women in recent memory who actually has a legitimate shot at garnering a position on the ballot.

Mrs. Clinton has a lot going for her and a lot going against her. She seems to be, for lack of a better term, a cold hearted bitch. On the other hand she has a good track record and obvious intelligence. Most importantly however, she has experience in the White House. She has Bill Clinton, one of the great politicians of our time (in my humble opinion he is up there with FDR as far as political prowess is concerned) as a husband and aide. She has been in the game and knows what to expect, and thanks to Bill can probably handle any scandal or accusations the Republicans can muster.

What some people may forget is that when Bill was running one of his campaign points was that if you voted for Bill that was also a vote for Hillary. It was a three way ballot so to speak; Clinton/Clinton/Gore. She had a hand in shaping the Clinton presidency, for better or for worse depending on who you ask.

She is use to the limelight and the political sphere, she has a long history in politics. But, like I mentioned above her biggest flaw is coming off like a total bitch. But, I do not hold that against her. In fact, I feel it is a positive. I use the term ‘bitch’ in a positive manner; similar to “tough love”. While, some people say she is a ‘bitch’ if she were a man they’d say he were ‘firm but fair’.

She is in a tough position. If she tries to show a feminine side her critics would say she is too weak for the job. She needs to be herself and be able to fend off the Republican/Christian Conservative hounds. Which, I think she will be able to handle well.

As far as her family is concerned, we all know the sex scandal. But people voted for Bush and he had been doing lines of coke and drinking, so a little sex scandal doesn’t seem that bad. And Hillary has already defused that land mine. Her daughter, Chelsea, is smart and is savy to the limelight. You won’t find her running around drunk like the Bush twins.

The whole Clinton clan is very savy to the game of politics. So, whether or not Hiillary will be the Democratic nominee, is yet to be seen. But, I am excited. Because if she goes all the way, she’d be the first woman and former first lady to take office. And if people do not vote for her strictly based off her gender, then people have serious issues.

To Be A Young American Is to be Confused.

I am a registered voter and damn proud of it. I was too young to vote for Al Gore, so I was so excited to take part in the democratic process when I cast my ballot for John Kerry. But I am not a registered party member of either the Republicans or Democrats. I find myself usually siding with the Democrats on some issues on others I sway Republican; a moderate is the term I believe.

As of late I feel pressured to register with a party. If no other reason then being able to vote in the primary elections and have a say in who the presidential candidate is. And with the upcoming 2008 election it looks like the Democrats might actually win and it’d be fun to be on the winning side for once, but then again Gore won the election and look what happened to him.

To be honest, modern politics and the state of the current U.S. Government has turned me sour for the whole concept of government. It seems so corrupt and so evil, and most importantly, totally out of my control. I mean, sure, I can cast my vote but it’s been seen that elections can be stolen. And the war in Iraq is such a mess and the whole Bush administration has caused me to lose hope in the concept of modern Democracy.

When I was a boy in grade school, when Clinton was president, I had such faith and pride in my government. Sure, they weren’t perfect, but I was into the American dream. Clinton was a master politician, he seem’d so cool, smart, calm, and collected. People may not have liked him personally, but people generally respected him. George W. Bush on the other hand has lied, cheated, and swindled the American public.

I read Al Franken’s book “The Truth” and was appalled at the Bush administration. I’ve read Sarah Vowell’s work and I realized there were kindred souls out there. My friends and I have all decided that this upcoming election we are really going to vote. Even my best friend, who is one of the most apathetic people alive, said he will vote. Because, we realized our generation has been dropping the ball when it comes to voting. And the decisions being made now are going to affect us a couple years down the line. I want my social security to be there, damn it!

So, I was considering registering as a Democrat. Republicans just have too big of a right wing Christian stigma attached to them for me right now. But, I want to vote for who I think will be the best man or woman for the job. Part of me is still that boy sitting in 5th grade awe struck by the potential for greatness America has. And though she may be in a dark corner right now, maybe, just maybe, Lady Liberty will shine again and America will be prosperous once more.

XXX Church

XXX Church, those two words may be the greatest juxtapostion you could possibly think of. And that is just the point. It sounds racy, a little sexy, and intrigues the average web surfer to check out the site.

But it is not your typical porn site. In fact, it’s an anti-porn site. XXX Church is a site created by a Christian group who battling against the porn industry. Actually, battling is a poor word choice. Because, they attend porn conventions and they have a t-shirt proclaiming that “Jesus Loves Porn Stars”.

In fact, when one thinks of Christian crusaders the image of a self righteous self proclaimed martry comes to mind. This is anything but. XXX Church was created by two youth pastors. And rather then pass judgement on porn stars, the industry, and its consumers they decided to leave all the judgement to God. Instead, they merely try to show a different life style.

They have a logical arguement that porn is abusive to women and disilluisoning to men. And as a young boy I remember watching porn with my friends. My friend’s father had an amazing porn collection which he thought he’d hid very well in the ceiling tiles of their basement. But, honry 14 year old boys will find porn at all costs. And when I had my first sexual expierence, after 2 minutes, I was confounded as to why it was nothing like I’d seen in those movies.

And XXX Church argues with modern porn that women are belittled. Most modern porn’s they say are gang bang’s. And some porn stars choose prostitution over being in porn’s. XXX Church states that it’s not out to shut down the adult entertainment industry. They aren’t on some holy roller crusade claiming all porn stars and anyone whose every masterbated to it is going straight to hell. They say Jesus loves everyone and only God can judge.

The use modern methods to get though to their audience. They use technology and have a sense of humor. And don’t seem to stick their noses up. In fact, they have had debates with Ron Jeremy and consider Jeremy a friend. They are fast becoming a force; even motivating others to create similar groups. Such as JC’s Girls ( Jesus Christs Girls).

The are an emerging face of modern Christianity. Which, instead of fighting the times, is working with them to try to create a better future. They do not condem or damn anyone, but offer love and peace to all. And you can’t put people down for that.

And remember, JESUS LOVES PORN STARS!

Naked Celebrities

I am tired of seeing naked celebrities. Either in sex tapes or mishaps where someone’s mini-skirt is a little too mini and the world see’s her privates or there is a “wardrobe malfunction” and you see her ta-ta’s. These celebrities have to know that if you don’t wear underwear with a skirt or a flimsy dress those photographers are going to get a shot of your baby chute or milk bags.

Some minor “celebrities”, people who are famous for being famous, use sex tapes as a means to further their careers. Paris Hilton did it. And now Kim Kardashian has a sex tape out. Which, looks like basically is a home made porn. She knew it was going to “leak”. Her and Ray J (don’t worry I don’t know who he is either)played up their sexual escapades for the camera. Though, if Kim K wanted to get a little more famous you think she’d pick someone even on the C-List.

But, I digress. Has our society become so over sexed? Is it really necessary for us to see the coochie of Britney and Lindsay? I am not getting into the whole role model for young women. Because, as a young man, I didn’t mind the photos in the least. But, even I, as a young man in college feel like this is all just a little too much. It used to be to see a girl in a thong or a skimpy skirt was scandalous, but now that is common place. Girls as young as 12 or under are dressing like complete whores.

I say, bring back a little mystery into the world of sex. And for God’s sake, no more sex tapes!

The New Pirates Trailer

This past Monday the new Pirates of the Caribbean trailer was released. This installment, called “At World’s End” is the 3rd and final film.

Pirates Of The Caribbean was suppose to be a one off film, but it did so well the producers decided to create a franchise and milk it for all it’s worth. And that is exactly what they have done. Pirates 2, to me, was a bit bloated. Wasn’t as strong and quick witted as the first. However, the third promises to get back on track and only have scenes which pertain to the storyline.

The teaser trailer is very well done. It shows all the key characters (except good ol’ Keith Richards, who rumor has it, was drunk in most of his scenes). The 3rd shows the Captain Jack survives and is reunited with his crew and Barbosa. The plot seems to be that The East India Trading Company now controls Davey Jones and wants to own the seas and eliminate all pirates.

So, Capt. Jack and crew team up with pirates from the “four ends of the earth” and have a battle royal. Who wins? Who knows, but the trailer show’d some amazing special effects. And Pirates 3 promises to be a summer blockbuster of mammoth proportions.

Listen Bud, He’s got radioactive blood

Aintitcoolnews recently posted a 7-minute length clip of the new Spider-Man 3 movie which is released Friday, May 4th. The clip was originally aired on NBC this past Monday during Heroes. I however, unfortunately missed it because Jack Bauer was on.

After viewing the clip several times. I am still excited to see the new Spider-Man installment. After having been let down by the load of crap that was Spider-Man 2, Spidey 3 has my hopes that Sam Raimi is going back to the comics for character inspiration.

Whereas, Spidey 2 was all about emotional struggle I felt it was dihonest to the comic version of Spidey, it completly ignored his smart-ass side. Anywho, Spidey 3 will be have it’s fill of villians. There’ll be Sandman, Hobgoblin, and of course VENOM!!!

The 7-minute clip show’d Peter Parker having it out with Hobgoblin. This should be a great storyline which I am intrigued as to how Raimi will have it all play out. Of course, Hobgoblin is Green Goblin’s son out to exact revenge on Spidey for killing his father. And their alter ego’s were childhood friends. So, Hobgoblin can hit Peter where it really hurts and put a huge emotional strain.

The clip only teased at Venom, which of course, is the most bad ass of villians. So I will retain hope that Spider-Man 3 won’t suck. Because ever sequel is only as bad as its predecessor. Now if only the sequel to ‘Batman Begins’ would come out!

You’ll Always Be My Hero, Cap.

It’s been confirmed by Marvel Comics that the character Captain America is going to die.

Cap has been around since 1941, defending freedom and embodying the American spirit. He’s always been a source of patriotism. And to lose him now, is a bit of a blow. Now is a time America could use a superhero like Captain America the most.

Cap, aka Steve Rogers, was an ordinary citizen. He has made a super solider by the U.S. government. He, along with his side kick Bucky, fought off the Nazis and Japan during WWII. He was a symbol of American pride during WWII. After the war, his popularity faded as did that of all super heroes. His storyline claimed he was frozen in a block of ice and never found. The ice block is come upon by the Avengers and Captain American is thawed out and resumes his fight against evil. And he has been a popular comic staple since the 1960s.

But now, in the amazing ‘Civil War’ crossover series. The Cap reaches the end of his journey. I am not going to say how, you should read it. Honestly, it’s a great read and comics aren’t just for little children anymore.

It’s been estimated that Captain America over 210 million copies of his comics in over 75 countries. He has been made into two made-for-tv movies, one direct-to-video, and several animated series. On a personal note, Captain America was always one of my favorite characters. He wasn’t as dark or complex as other comics. He didn’t have any amazing mutant powers. But, I always knew he would do the right thing. Even though when he was thawed out all his friends were old and his love had married someone else (they all thought he was dead) he never stop’d fighting for the right cause. And he would use his mind and strength to overcome obstacles. And most of all, all the other super heroes look’d up to him as a leader.

And while his death does make a for a great story arc, I can’t help but feel sad. Captain America was a true super hero and he will be greatly missed. And with everything going on in this country, we could’ve used a little Cap.

Rhymesayers (pt1)

The Minneapolis based indie hip-hop label Rhymesayers is home to some of the best artists out today. It boasts, in my overtly biased opinion, the two greatest mc’s out today. Slug of Atmosphere and P.O.S. I will discuss both them MC’s in detail. This first post, geniusly called Part 1, will deal with Slug aka Sean Daley.

Atmosphere, it’s just a ten letter word, that when spoken to some conjurs up images of a manic man with a microphone spilling his guts on the stage. Atmosphere was formed back in 1994 in Minneapolis. It consists of Slug (Sean Daley) and the man behind the beats Ant (Anthony Davis). Daley and Davis help’d to create Rhymesayers Records in 1995 and have been releasing records ever since. Though, their “Seven’s Travels” record was released on the Epitaph Label.

Slug’s lyrics have been called “conscious rap” with bits of “slice of life moments”. While most mainstream hip-hop artists boast and brag about wealth and their sexual prowess; Slug raps about his lack of money, mental anguish, and lack of finesse with the female gender. A recurring character in his narratives is a woman called “Lucy”. She is lyrical tool he uses to convey all his mixed emotions about his relationships. He tends to have a self destructive nature with women and isn’t afraid to say he is flawed.

His honesty is refreshing. And he also as a way with words that Dylan (both Bob and Thomas) could admire. Just read the lyrics to “Lovelife” to get a feel for his genius. His ability to combine intelligent lyrics, flow, and honesty makes fans feel close to him. A wide variety of people can be found listening to Atmosphere. There are those a-typical hip-hop types who enjoy the beats and his flow, jocks who enjoy his anger, females who find his honesty attractive, more or less anyone who enjoys good music. It is his ability to convey complex emotions and concepts in clever yet simple terms that sets him apart from the crowd.

I highly suggest buying the entire Atmosphere discography. You can download a couple tracks, but you buy his records, because he is indie and needs the money.

And if you can see this man live, do it. I had the pleasure of seeing him and P.O.S in concert and it was like going to church. Slug’s ability to move the audience was an out of body expierence.

So, if you’ve ever been in a realtionship, good or bad. If you’ve ever just thought your life was in the toilet but still had a strand of hope it was going to get better. Then buy Atmosphere. Slug is an MC you need in you’re life, DON’T EVER FUCKING QUESTION THAT.
